Diamond in the Rough? Nope, Federal Way!

The waters are a risin in Federal Way, but that didn't stop the Famished Four, {FF} from their weekly AM Nosh. Todays Venue de Chew, Diamond Jims in Beautiful, all be it soaked F Way. To be clear, The Famished Four was minus one, MSue is in Baltimore, Delaware and Wash DC till friday. Smoj and HT Ken picked me up bout 9:00 and we sloshed our way out. We had been to DJ's before but not for a while, It's kinda funny tho, when in Federal Way for breakfast, you seem to run into familar faces, It Seems all us folk who live out that way eat breakfast at the same 3 restaurants, Black Bear Diner, Village Inn or Diamond Jims , they sorta go in a circle, you know visit one place for a while till they screw up something then off to the next place untill they in turn cook your eggs to hard... then to the next, we however dont eat at any of these places all to often, dont get me wrong now all three are decent, quite frankly I think they all make their coffee in one giant urn and share it between the three of em... Sigh... such is my quest. But nuff said bout that, Diamond Jims is pretty good, no waiting , good service and the food arrives hot and fast. we were seated immediatly, asked what our Bev o choice would be, Coffee for me, just water for Smoj, and Hot T for ol HT , didn't see that coming did ya? so Ken got his tea, Val her water, Coffee ?....... musta forgot. Our Server arrived and took our order, and assured me the coffee would arrive soon. Now I know the coffee in these places kinda sucks but doggone it I still want it,and just when I was gonna say.. Scuse me, my Breakfast arrived along with my first cup of Cafe de Mediocre. DJ's Eggs Benny for me, their rendition is a triple egg affair along with browns, pretty good Hollandaise. Tho my eggs were runnier than perfect { better than too hard}, Thats Not what she said! I am talkin eggs here, kinda had to get my own ketchup.. oh well I shouldn't really whine to much it is what it is right? Smoj had had a Ham and cheese scramble, browns and toast, she was a good eater this morning, almost all gone . Ol Hot T along with his namessake, had the Waffle breakfast, Two eggs two links... He said it was good, what was good was the price ,mine was 12 bucks out the door! I'm sure Ken and Vals was equally thrifty! We will I'm sure at some point go back.. not sure when, Lucky for me there are many Starbucks close by! ...... P.S Like I said earlier, bout runnin into folks, we ran into an elementary teacher of both our daughters Jess and Cass! she's one of the people we see at these joints, always great to see her, dressed all Chrismassy, Mrs Muscutt! yep one of the good ones for sure. Still got the lipstick on my cheek to prove it!

Etta's at the Market.. turn it up!

Greetings, Blogophyles! been a while since we went someplace new. Todays Target of Consumption was Ettas, its one of the many Tom Douglas affairs in the city and for a nice Sunday morn in November, it wasn't too crowded, tho we did make reservations, it really didn't appear to have been needed . MSue and myself Whisked by and picked up Smoj and Ol Hot T and headed out. A short preface before we start... Last year for Christmas MSue and I presented Val and Ken {Smoj and Hot T} with a copy of Seattle magazine, it was the one that listed many of the fine breakfast locals, that we have visited this past year. We informed them that this was their "Christmas present" that is that they could pick any place in the magazine or any place else for that matter, and that particular fare for that day would be Gratis.. free... on the cuff .. we'd pick up the bill.. Well they sure took they're sweet time, but today was the day and Ettas was they're choice , of course since it was on us, we drove... right?. So's we arrived at our destination, and as par for Market type dining, we had to park a bit a way ,We dropped the Chicks and hit the Bricks!... Well we parked any way, and Ol Hot T and Me made are way back to meet our dates. Ettas does not have a huge menu, but its a bit different than your basic eggaline con bacon. They have a nice selection of Morning pick me ups, Scratch Bloody Marys. Bellinis, you know the use! So bein the rebels that we are, MSue had Ice T w/lemon , Ol Hot T .. wait for it.. yep Hot T and good ol Smoj had Water.. yep h2o, I said Hey! your throwin off the Blog! were buyin, have an OJ, or a cocktail.. shot o tequila!... Nope just water, oookkk. MSue and Smoj again ordered the same meal, Dungeness Crab Eggs Benny! with spinach also , roasted spuds and , well I guess that was it for them, they both enjoyed the meal, although MSue says maybe a little lite on the Hollandaise, and I did notice that Vals eggs were a little over poached, Msues of course were scrambled {well done} but instead of the two eggs, as is customary, she requires them to only make hers with one egg, dont ask me to explain, two eggs are just too much! Nuff a dat! Ol Hot T ordered the Ettas Hash, also with roasted spudniks, wedge of toast and his two poachers appeared to be perfect, it also came with Habanero ketchup... What ? Yep You heard right and it was Awsome! They should offer it with every plate, I spose you could get it .. if you asked... I will next time, in fact if they bottled it ,I would buy it! Well thats almost it, Cept for me and as you might have guessed Ettas is at the Market.. what do they have at the Market?.. some one said "Seafood"! Right you are Scooter, and what may I ask is my Seafood o Choice?.. right again Scooter!! OYSTERS!! Hangtown Fry Baby!!! Ettas version of this dish is a kinda Omlette with bacon and onions and a little bit of swiss, Topped with two lovely little pearls of the sea, actually pretty good sized lil oysties , they in turn were topped with a bit of creme fraiche. Yumtatilicious!!! I burped em for two hours... man thats good burpin! Also with Taters mine did come and a wedge o toast, and Ol Hot T was nice enough to share his Habanero Ketchup! thanks buddy! I washed it all down with plenty o Hot Jo, black as coal and pretty darn acceptible. Yessiree Bob we liked it , and will go back at some point, but Cutters is right across the street, and Lowells is in the Market proper.. Rumour has it they both have Oysters!

Good Food and...

We did something today Blogomaniacs that we haven't done for awhile.. Yep had breakfast with Ken and Val, oh yeh you might know them as Hot T and Smoj. They decided to quit all this globetrotting and hanging out with the rich and famous and have a nice little everymans breakfast with their friends Jim{me} and Msue{Msue} We have been going out ,Msue and I have ,but the places weve been going have been some of our old haunts{noticed how I worked that in, Halloween an all} So today we were going to go Petes Egg nest, Msue wanted bacon!..but since we have been there like a cajillion times ,ol Hot and Smoj thought we should try somthing new, you know, something to blog about{although frankly.. I replied to one of Vals postings on Facebook, and referred to her as Smoj... She didn't know what it was, sure I read your blogs Jim,well she should after all shes a big part , as much fun as I poke her way} Sigh.... Anyhoo we followed their lead and agreed "To Sumner we would go, our quest for our late morning mastication ritual was to be K C's Bakery and Cafe on Main st in quaint lil dtown Sumner, gotta parking place right in front yeh baby! and in we walked, got seated right away at a table upstairs. Right when we sat we heard from another table, Wow look at that bacon!, Msue turned around so fast, she bout fell over, she does like her bacon. We order our bevs o choice, Coffee for me, ol Hot T and Smoj were up to their old habits yep, Tea and OJ for them, Msue of course has that Ice T Monkey on her back ,soooo Ice T W/lemon she orders, but wait, she didn't get a lemon in her Ice T, so I, bein the stand up guy that I am, asked the waitress if she might bring her one... waiting, waiting.. no lemon, so I asked the Busboy, sure as shootin she got her self a lemon slice, he brought it out with his fingers and handed it to her, the look on her face was really? Fingers? but she held out her glass and plopped it in, whew!, 1 star taken away {we all start with 5}We did order food , Smoj ordered the Swiss and spinach mushroom omlette, as a scramble of course, and Msue says ditto for me.. same ol same for the both of em,one of these times, I'm just gonna order for the both of em.. Ol Hot T had the Ham steak, eggs over med and hashbrowns, I had the Biscuits and Gravy, 2 eggalinas over medium, and browns as well. Of course we had no silver ware, so a small wait for that, refills on my coffee.. absolutely, refills on Ice T not so much..one more star ..Snatched away! The girls food arrived first. for 4 egg affairs they were kinda dinky, and they had just a little slice of swiss cheese on top,a bit of a turn off at first but they managed ok and said that it was good, although they would order differantly next time, the scramble came with hollandaise on the side, which was really good. Hot Ts Ham and Eggs looked really good, the slab o ham was big and thick, eggs done perfect and Ol Hot T said the browns were almost the best ever! My Skits and Gravy were fantasmic! ,the gravy was almost as good as the Chelans,{which is almost as good as Msues homemade} Eggs over perfect, and I gotta agree with Ol Hot T, Damn good browns... MM! The portions not huge but ample enough, Msue needed a box for her leftovers so again we asked and we waited... and she also needed a to go cup for her Ice T and we waited... Wham!" one more star" no longer there. It did arrive, both containers that is and the food box had Muchos Gracias imprinted on it , we just thought it was kinda funny... Sooo Peoples, KC's bakery and cafe, the food was good, really good, mine and Ol Hot T's were anyways , the service was..polite.. but a little slow, I think they meant well. We decided we would rate these places as "Gotta go back" Will go back"We might go back"We'll only go back if they say please"or Never Never Ever go back.. KC's rated a "Will Go Back" Cuz you know the food was good , right? The Service I'm sure will be better next time! Oh Yeh! the Coffee.... not so much.. but I'll keep tryin!

"Long Time no Blog"

Well I really cant believe it was August 8th since last I blogged,Have We not had the need to feed? indeed not! no we have ... eaten that is. Has no place been blogworthy? no.. we've been to some decent joints. What could it be you ask? Can you say Kitchen Remodel?.... Good! I knew you could, what I didn't know, was that it could be so encompasing, so time consuming, and with no contracter to blame , who was gonna get the hot end of the poker? thats right ,"this guy"! Lucky for me , I had some much needed and much appreciated help from my buddy Jeff , for without his help I would be in a sad state of disrepair, along with the kitchen. The end is within reach now, its looking good, no major setbacks really , things just take longer apparently ... anyhow I digress, restaurants ? yes there have been a few, although some of the details may be a bit scetchy, I should be able to hit a few of the high notes along the way. Hmmmm since I last blogged we have been to "Dixies" in Sumner, "Mary's in Kent, "Sara's Coffee Shop",also in Kent. Oh Yeh, and "BlueberryHill" in Manson and Today We went to the "Bay Cafe" yes deja vu, Been there blogged that , But still noteworthy and not just cuz they have oysters for breakfast,{the're still awsome} no, it was the quality of the company that made this particular trip special. My Aunt Jean was in town from Wisconsin, and if that wasn't cool enough ,she brought one of my favorite people in the world with her ,my Cousin Diane. Now I have known my Aunt all my life, she's my late Dads younger sister, tho how much younger , she wont reveal. But Diane really I've known for just a short time, 10 , 15 years maybe, it's a shame really, it seems I've missed out on someone pretty special, any ways We dont get to see them very often, so it was nice to have breakfast with them this A.M. Our usual partners in crime, Smoj Val and "ol Hot t Ken" are on vacation, no shos this trip. I of course had Oysters {Duh!} along with what I forgot were damn near the best Browns ever sided by 3 eggers over medium, only one thing to say bout that" MM"! My Aunt Jean had a Waffle, side o bacon Cuz Diane had blueberry pancakes, the waitress asked if she would like whipped cream with her cakes? Diane replied, Ive never had that, but bring it on, she must of liked it, when it was all said and done, the whipped cream was gone, although I noticed that maybe her pancakes wern't quite up to snuff.. for there were a few doughy berries left behind, I offered her an Oyster, which she immediatly declined. Never did like those things , she stated, She was a bit surprised when mine arrived cooked, I like em raw , I do, but fried or grilled is better for breakfast. MSue had an Omlette, but ordered as a scramble, It had feta cheese, spinach, tomatoes and shrooms along with crispy browns, side o salsa, and plenty of Ice T w/lemon to wash it all down. Yeppers Good Company, good breakfast. Yeh that was today in a nutshell, the other places I mentioned? Oh yeh Dixies in Sumner, a long time ago it seems , I cant quite remember quite what we all had but we have been there before, quite a few times in fact, the food is good, the place is loud as hell and the wait can sometimes be long, but its worth the wait, big portions, friendly family owned, on Main st in downtown Sumner. A few of the highlights are a pretty good CFS, "Dads" potatoes and all their Omlettes or Scrambles . Now Marys in upper Kent... Eh nothin special, I did have the CFS there , I maybe spoiled by some of the other places we've been to but the CFS was a cfs, yep.. pretty tiny, the rest of the food ordered was ok I guess, but unremarkable. "Sara's Coffeshop" on central in lower Kent I guess you'd say. Sara's was tiny tiny, and probably not remodeled since JJ said DYNOMITE! but I gotta tell ya the food was pretty darn good, now both M sue ordered simple breakfast fare, she had the bacon and eggs, scrambled well done, side o salsa. no salsa! what? oh well no biggy, Ice T of course. My order was the same, cept egglys over med... good browns, lots of thick bacon yep pretty good.. coffee, not so much, but the food was good and we will go back,we went by ourselves, Ken and Val absent once again ,Vacation I guess . Ok now for Blueberry Hill in Manson Wa, I went there While MSue was Vacationing with her clucky hen friends in Palm Desert, I was attending a family wedding, our niece Stacy's it was in Chelan , very nice affair... after all the festivities, on our way home we stopped at his place Myself, Herb and Theresa, {MSue's sister and hubby} their kids Kristen and spousel unit Jake and the coolest kid ever ,their son Colton, gonna be two pretty soon and Katie, their youngest, minus husband Adam {had to work} anyhoo you go in this place and order your food at the counter, they in turn bring you the food when ready, so we find table and wait, and wait and wait just abit more, finally the food arrived, Skits and gravy for me and Herb mmmm good, probably the best I've had. but The Coffee tasted like bad instant... next time I'll have juice, course it is in Manson, next time may be quite a long time. But if your ever in Manson, go early, long lines long wait....

Breakfast in Covington? Hell yea!

Ok, so let me paint the picture for you faithful blogomites. My sister has a BBQ party every year, right about this time every year. They started having this wingding years ago so their kids and their friends could get together, and they as parents could see their kids friends yada, yada.Well its turned into quite the deal, the kids are older now some of their friends have kids of their own ,other people ,neighbors, friends of friends, all seem to be welcome.Lots and lots of good food and fun! So my nephew Troy ask's "Whats on the Breakfast Blog Menu for tomorrow?"{faithfull follower that he is} Of course MSue says back, dont really know most times we just figure it out on the fly. Well you get enough people together, and you start to drink a bit , it seems every body has their fav B-fast joint . To make a short story a bit longer, after numerous suggestions Troy and his lovely wife,Krystal along with their close friends Dave and Krista said we should try "Draft Choice"in Covington, they all raved about it! So Having all the respect that I do for Troy's opinion on such matters,ie; liquor and food and what not ,we decided Why not? Troy and Krystal and Dave and Krista say heck if you go, we'll meet you there.. alright then its a date. So ol Hot T and Smoj Val show up at our place round a bout 8:30 and off we go! Rag top up this trip... Raining in August.. oh well, the restaurant is a little bar/lounge right on the Kent Black Diamond rd. the cross street is Thomas rd I believe. Well sir We walked right in just like my niece said we would, sat right down, not crowded at all ,got our drink on ,so to speak.. MSue and Val had Bloody Caesers, I of course had coffee, ol Hot did not dissapoint ordered Hot T, He asks "Do you have English Breakfast?"The waitress says nope.. Lipton it is! Troy said this place wasnt't fancy ,kinda divey, My kinda place!Well we din't find it that way at all, what it is is small to medium size, nice neighborhood Watering hole that happens to have a really kick ass breakfast! MSue and Val both again ordered the same.. Eggs Benedict.. Cept for Msue had hers with egg scrambled well done, Home Fries instead of the usual Hashbrowns, Cuz my Niece and Krista said order the home fries, I think they both would have preferred the browns! They said they were good but nothin special, But they did really like the Benedict, the sauce was mildy lemony and rich, Canuck Bacon an all and no leftovers.. Mustodelicioso!!! ol Hot T ordered the" Farmers Scramble"; sausage, bacon assorted veggies and cheese and a mix and match of taters, half browns, half homers, Big platter o grub for ol Hot T he could not finish. He did however like it!! Troy says to me , you gotta have the CFS, Uncle Jim, its the best! Well Troy I gotta tell ya.. Hell yeh ! It was damn good, crispy with just the right amount of greasy goodness that I find appealing in a cfs! I also had the Homers, stead o browns They were fresh red spuds cooked perfectly, I liked em a lot! course with Eggsters over medium and wheat toast, mmmm ,I
really should have taken half my steak home , cuz it was hugeormous... noper I ate it all,I did !and sopped up the remaining gravy and yolk with my last piece of toast!! Nice Recomendo Troyo! Cept for one thing... YOU GUYS DIDN'T SHOW UP! Lucky for us the Waitress and the cook did, it was one of the best breakfasts I've had , pretty good jo also, basic but strong and plentiful! I dont know where our travels will bring us too next week Troy, you guys are welcome to join the crew, tho I wont hold my breath! Yep Yep, "Draft Choices" Covington was the right choice for Famished Four on this sunday.. we'll be back!

Tommy's Cafe, Renton

This week oh my many blogger fans,Tommy's Cafe in Renton fell victim to the Famished Fours {FF's} pre lunch mastication onslaught{breakfast} I was in Renton last week and noticed the parking lot was packed in the early hours of a saturday, well I figured ,"Must be the food" pretty sharp huh? so then I looked it up on the net, and there were a lot of good reviews, thought it might be worthy of a try. So off we sailed in Msue's Convertible, sun shining, beautiful day that it was ,heading for our destination, Ol Hot T and small OJ {Smoj} in the backseat thoroughly recking their doos. I was drivin kinda slow so not to be too windy on our passengers, Msue says its better to go faster and get it over with, and then beat me to the {"Thats what she said "comment} So eventually we arrived and in we walked, seat yourself some one said, maybe Mrs. Tommy, and were promptly served our bev o choice, coffee for me {or hot water with a brown crayon dipped in it} Ice t w/lemon for Msue, and ol Hot T and Smoj had there usual {hot t, small oj} finally back to their senses, although Smoj Val was thinking bout pineapple juice, {she would just to screw with me, cuz thats how she rolls} Again Val ordered an omelette as a scramble, I mentioned to her of my previous blog and how I made fun of her, and her and Ol Hot T went on to explain how the scramble takes on a whole different dynamic as opposed to the omelette Yada ,yada, yada ok I get it!,sooo she ordered her's as a scramble, ham ,swiss cheese and peppers with home fries stead of browns and toast, the home fries looked pretty good, she didn't bring any home so I'm guessing she liked it. Ol Hot T Ken went right for the jugular ,with the Breakfast Mess, frankly it looked a lot like Vals but he said it was pretty darn good, although a bit short on animal parts, he exclaimed! My lovely Msue was bound and determined to keep it simple once again and not to copy Val,she was true to her word and ordered Bacon and Eggs scrambledwelldone, browns extra crispy, side o salsa! Eggs were perfect!, she said, good browns and toast also and plenty of Ice t to wash it all down with. Life is much nicer when Msue's happy. {i'm just sayin} As for ol Jimbo, I ordered the" Margaret" Two biscuits and gravy, three sausage links and browns but no eggs, so I asked for two of em over medium. The eggs were perfect I gotta say and the skits and gravy were pretty good to,as well as the browns . So all in all pretty good grub, we all thought it was worth a second trip, nothin fancy, but few of the places we go to are, food and friendship is how we roll, this time Tommy's supplied the food!

Destination;Daves Diner

Wow, It's been a month since I last blogged, Sup w/dat?, well I'll tell you sup! Have we not been breakfasting? yes we have! Has it not been blog worthy?Yes it has ,buuuttt in the last 3 sundays we have supped at joints that have been previously bloggamized, The Chelan Cafe, supergood!,Browns Point Diner,Yumarrific!as usual, and what might just become the ff's Fav,Petes Egg Nest,Stupendalicious!Nuff said bout that! So Daves Diner you ask? Why Daves? well for one thing it's pretty darn close to home and it was one of those places,I think smoj [Val] said lets try it,so we did. Our first trip to Daves was a while ago and we've been back a couple a times, but last sunday would be the event in question. This is one of those used to be cafes, you know,it used to be Dennys, or it used to be a Sambos, wow that was a long time ago, Well I'm old ! just play along. What Daves is is a pretty good little Cafe, the service is good, never too long a wait and the food,at least for breakfast,is pretty good. It's all decorated in road travel stuff, you know old licence plates, flight stuff ,trucker stuff ,its right across from the airport on 188th so they got all the bases covered. Food? oh yeh food.. So to start smoj[small orangejuice Val] ordered a small tomato juice! effin A! , I told her it would throw me off, you think you know someone and they do this to ya !,oh well I'm not changing her name now! so along with the tomato juice she ordered the one of the special omelettes of the day, this one had spinach, shrooms, onion , swiss cheese and ham was da meat! and of course ol smoj couldn't just take it as is, nooo way, she said may I have it as a scramble? Of course was the reply! [ personaly,I dont really see the diff], But Ol smoj likes her scrambles, chopping up the omelette is way to hard. On to Msue, she said she wanted Bacon and eggs, sumpin simple ,well after smoj placed her order, Msue replied, I want that too.. It sure makes remembering what the food was easy! of course she requested browns extra crispy, and they arrived razor sharp! man! thats crispy! They both enjoyed their meal, but there were not very many taters on any ones plate. Hot T Ken [HTK] had ..... wait for it....... Hot T! to start, finally I predict something correctly. HTK ordered another of the Omlettes Du Jour, a cornbeef hash and swiss concoction which he informed me was quite good! along with his usual Rye toast..... no... wait he ordered an english muffin instead of his usual rye, Ol HTK was not gonna be in a rut today [ they do this on purpose you know, just to throw me off] As for me, well certain places call for certain food, I've had other items at Daves before, such as eggs benny, passable, but one time I received my eggs poached hard,an immediate turn off, and another time I ordered a sausage omlette, but the cheese was extra! dont all omlettes come with cheese ? sup wi dat Dave? nope when I 'm at Daves it's CFS, choice of browns or country taters, choice of country gravy or sausage. Eggers over medium done perfect! Now the CFS at Daves is 9.29, for 9.99 you can get the Motherlode size, hell why not? what's 4 bits? So if you like a CFS the size of a roofing shingle! this might just be your place to go, I wouldn't necessarily claim, best ever, but it' s damn good and I will motherlode again. So all in all pretty good, I'm sure our travels will bring us back to Daves. The coffee is ok ,basic brown, and hey! in the evening Daves has "Dinner and a Movie" on Saturdays , last sat was "Blazing Saddles, hmmm I wonder if baked beans were on the menu. Next Week... Mexican? Ballard? Senor Moose of course!

Well Happy Fathers day to all the Dads out there! It was mens choice today for breakfast, naturally we chose Mexican, ol Hot T and Me. The FF 's destination of choice on this most hallowed of days was Senor Moose! a tiny little cafe on Leary ave in YaSure you betcha Ballard. It came highly recommended from a friend at work and also rave reviews from "Seattle" magazine. We arrived about 9:00 and there was quite a line, the staff quoted us a 30 minute wait . Ok we drove from Federal Way, whats 30 minutes, give or take. They did offer coffee to those who were waiting, and there were quite a few of us in the same predicament, a good sign I thought.... The Jo was Fantasmically good! {another good sign} probably the best coffee to date since I've been bloggin all o this. I was very happy, 30 minutes later we were seated, Yay! 20 minutes later they took our order! not so yay. Well they were busy so I thought to myself ,"aint no thaing"I had some good coffee.Msue as she always does, wanted her Ice T w/lemon,well no lemons just limes, strike 1 ! ,a small strike, but a strike non the less. We did finally order and both the chickies ordered Chorizo Con Huevos ,a scramble, with black beans, torillas on the side. Smoj Val once again ordered just Agua to drink I guess she just cant be labeled buy her bev o choice! Neither of the Gals thought much of their food, and quite frankly, it was rather bland, MSue said it didnt feel much like Sunday Breakfast,Strike 2!. HTK ordered coffee ! What ? well it was Decaff but no T for Ken today, cmon Ken have some caffeine for once!, oh well I wouldn't want to harsh his mellow. HTK {or DeCaff Ken} ordered Huevos Divorciados Especiale! Eggs poached tortillas, potatoes and chorizo I think with a salsa verde and salsa roja, with avocados and cream, he liked it he said. So I said did you like it like it ? I dont think they will date again. I believe Ol HTK will order differantly next time. My Food was Chorizo Con Papas, It was Papas day after all! but in this case papas meant potatoes. It was all mixed up with sliced cactus and topped with two eggarinas,{small eggs} ordered over medium, arrived fried hard! Steeerike 3!!, not very spicy without the help of my favorite Mexican beverage ,Tapatio. Mine with the exception of the eggs was not bad, It got rave reviews, this cafe did, but today it was nothing really to rave about, ceptin for the Coffee, which was off the hook! Northstar was the brand I believe and it was almost worth the drive, will we go back? in all fairness maybe . They have lunch and dinner as well, and you gotta love the name! We did drive up to Greenwood ,to Mikalas for The best Chai Lattes ever, yuk! but the chicks like em yum yum yummy Val exclaimed, and I had some of their coffee, feelin pretty zippy now! Arriba! Arriba!,Happy Fathers Day Dad! Still missing you after all these years!

Catfish for breakfast?

In probably what used to be the most notorious part of Tacoma is a tiny cafe called the "Southern Kitchen" Yep, just passed the "Welcome to Hilltop" sign at the intersection of 6th and Sprague sits this place and apparently the Food Network has visited here as well as some of the other joints we've been to. Well just like the name states its full of southy type food, they have Liver and onions for breakfast two eggs and browns to boot, none of us ordered it ,Heck no! but I thought I'd bring it up.Msue had CFS, the meat had grilled onions on top and then topped with pretty good gravy, she had of course, eggs scrambled "well done"side o salsa.. Ice T w/lemon, I bet I could order for her at any place, she doesn't steer to clear of her favs!Buuut no salsa, she was a bit perplexed as to why no salsa, but we assume that in the south where there's hot sauce aplenty, no salsa. too mexican I guess., but the Ice T came in a quart jar, unsweetened for her of course. They have plenty of sweet tea versions however, strawberry, peach, as well as lemonade all topped with whipped cream! They like things sweet down south!SMOJ Val ordered French toast, two eggs scrambled, chunk o ham, and had H2O instead of her small oj, Weird huh? quite frankly she didn't much care for her meal, the eggs were dry, the ham was kinda sweet and spicy, it just wasn't smoj's day . HTK of course started with Hot T and ordered a Hot link sausage and cheddar omlette,{Which was gonna be my choice} with browns and toast,{no rye bread sorry Ken}, it looked like about a six egg affair, plenty big, but not much kick from the hot links, Ken exclaimed! I thought well as long as I'm in the South, yeh ok South Tacoma, might as well try to fit in,so I ordered Catfish and Eggs Y'all , and I gotta tell ya, I liked it! the fish was light and crispy, the eggs were over medium perfect and what browns I got were pretty good{not real generous with the taters} I should have just gone all South on em and ordered me up some grits, cuz at the Southern Kitchen they come with everything , oh well maybe next time, If there is indeed a next time, My meal was pretty good, the other members of theFF, were not to impressed hugely. The coffee here was not that good ,really just basic cafe type , not great, but not too good either... get my drift? I dont know what it is bout restaurants and their Jo, but I can only assume when you pour that much in a day maybe its too spendy to buy quality... this is one of those times when I guess most people like this type of swill so "quantity over quality"wins out. Will we go back ? Yeh I might , gotta try the Grits! tune in next week boys and girls, and see where the "Famished Four " strike next, might try the Hobnobber Bar, cross from Wright Park , we ate there a long time ago and I think it was pretty good. other places in our site are The Maltby Cafe, maybe Beths,I wonder what Beths food taste like when your not hungover and 21, which was probably the last time I was there! All I know is were gonna go somewhere, and lotsa times we dont know till sunday morn!

Pete's Egg Nest

Yes I realize I've skipped a week, we did have breakfast last week at the Chelan... nuff said! My little darlin Wobes is back from San Francisco and she wanted to go to the Chelan and generally speaking , what little darlin wants, well you know the rest.Soo with Wobes sleeping after a night of whatever with her homies, MSue and I along with HTK {Hot t Ken} and SOJ {Val} off we went to Pete's Egg Nest in Greenwood, Between 65th and 80th on Greenwood ave in north Seattle. The review said to get there early {usually a wait} and parking was questionable. Shoot Son.. HTK dropped the chickies right in front and found a spot to park right across the street, the girls got us a table, and in we walked., Lucky,I've probably been in noisier cafes before, but I dont know when, But I soon realized it was the sound of happy people gettin their grub on! The Decor of this little joint consists of Photos of Greece and Photos of Family. Last week I told Y'all about Voulas,well like Voulas , Petes Egg nest as well as Petes employees, appear to be of Greek descent, that being said, I gotta go to Greece , that is if they eat like this all the time, Criminy! what a pile o food! They have a pretty big menu at Petes and it was hard to make a descision, but we did, and all in all the right one! Msue had the Farmers Scramble, a wheelbarrow full of food ! Eggs, Veggies smothered with Cheddar on top of probably the best Browns ever!! wonderful! MSue exclaimed , but she would have preferred the browns not covered up, all washed down with plenty of Ice T w/lemon, Val had the "California" Scramble, shrooms , avocados and plenty of other veggies... and topped with sour cream.. maan! but I dont think hers was on top of her browns, oh well! As per her usual vitamin C fix, Small OJ did not dissapoint . HTK of course, had his usual English breakfast T, {So British of him!} His choice for food was a Special Benny! It came with andouille sausage , spinach and shrooms with 3 poachers and covered in hollendaise, plus a slab o crispy browns, Holy Mackerel! it looked delish! He said it was , and claimed the browns were the best ever! Well as far as mine went , I usually go for CFS when I go to a new place, So's I can compare how they rate with others I've had.Pete's did not dissapoint no no no , crispy, hot and covered with pretty damn good sausage gravy, a brick size slab of freakin awsome browns, plus 3, yes I said 3, perfectly over medium eggsters!... me likey? Yeppers I did, oh yeh and it came with biscuits and gravy on the side, Wut uuupp! Next time we go there, oh yes there will be a next time! I will order differantly, only because the menu is big, and I had my eyes on a greek sausage and egg thing I gotta try! My only disappointment was the coffee, the service was friendly and the coffee was constantly full, but it was full of Farmers coffee .. not good jo, but hot. Luckily for me around the corner was a little coffee place called Mikalas, Super good drip jo! also in a real mug if you drink it there! much like Fremont Roasters, that I went on and on about in a previous blog. Msue and Val each had a small Chai T, of which they said was fantasmic! I'm thinking of moving up north just for the coffee! So , Did we like Pete's Egg Nest? Yes we did! Will we go back? Yes we will! But there are so many places to try still, although if they ever got in cahoots with the coffee shop around the corner , there may never be a reason to eat anywhere else! Pete's is goin down as a FFF {Famished Four Fav}

Voulas off shore Cafe!

Well I realize that a week has gone by and no Blog, Last week was Mothers Day, and we did go out for breakfast, but we went to the market and while at the market, we dined at Lowells. There were a few things about Mothers Day at the market I should mention. Ok first thing it was sunny, a beautiful spring day in Seattle! Which in my opinion is a reason to not go to the market as well as a reason to be at the market. So many people, no place to park, yada, yada yada. It was however not Fathers Day, so thats where we went. It was good as usual but having blogged about this joint before ,I wont get too deeply into it, but I will say one thing about it. Ken and I dropped off Msue and Val right in front so they could get us a table, we then sped off to park somewhere, We ended up about a half a mile away. The girls informed us that Lowells would not seat them until Ken and I arrived, we would have had a nice window table looking out at the water ,but nooo!, not till the men showed up. They dropped a few notches in my opinion! Oh well, enough about that, today we went to Voula's off shore Cafe . You say Voula's ?, where the hell is Voula's? it's right next door to the Northlake Tavern, home to the famous Northlake Pizza! Everyone in Seattle seems to know about the pizza joint ,but Voula's doesn't ring a bell to a lot of folks, unless of course you live in the U district. It seems a lot of u dubbers like this joint and I understand why! Like I said right on Northlake ave under the Freeway is where you will find this little cafe, and most days Voula herself will seat you! It was featured on Diner's Drive ins, and Dives on the Food Network. We've been there a couple of times and I believe it will become one of Famished Fours Favs {FFF} The portions here are huge, you will either take some home, or you will not eat the rest of the day! Most people that dine here are regulars, they walk in and are greeted by name, sit in their usual seat and sometimes get up and pour their own coffee! at which time Voula will yell at them and ask if they need a job? So Msue always orders the same thing, A Greek Hobo! which is hashbrowns, eggs, onions, peppers and greek sausages all mixed up and covered with Feta cheese! A giant plate o grub, and it is pretty darned good ! They have a regular Hobo as well, reg sausage, cheddar cheese, and still ginormous! Small oj Val had the exact as Msue{makes commenting on this rather simple} they both brought most of it home, to which Voula replied " you didn't finish?,you must wash dishes! Hot T Ken ordered the regular Hobo, to which the waitress talked him out of. She told him the special was what he should get, he could order the Hobo any time. The special was called El Diablo, their version of Huevos Rancheros. Totillas and beans with onions and peppers and jalapenos all topped with a couple of fried cackleberries served over Voulas famous browns,El Plato Gigantico! Ol Hot T said, "best he ever had! It looked awsome! I was going to order the "Big Voula" which is three eggs, Two thick slices o bacon, two slices of greek sausage on top of a huge plate of what are darn near the best browns ever! The hasbrowns cover the entire plate and everything else sits on top! Man what a feed! . That is however not what I ordered, I ordered "Billys Biscuits" Plate of said Browns, topped with two biscuits covered with Sausage gravy,{good enough to eat by it self} and two eggs over medium, as is my will! and enough Hot jo to float a boat ,Holy Mackerel! Strap on the feed bag and put on your Thanksgiving Turky pants, cuz yer gonna need em! not just lotsa food, but lotsa really good food! Highly recommended by the Famished Four, soon to be a FFF! oh yeh , average coffee!

Pike Place for Breakfast mmm good!

I know what your thinking, Hey it's Monday and no breakfast blog! Not so fast my faithfull blogamites, all two of you!Yessereebob, I'm changing it up a bit... but not sos you'd notice it, so let me splain,K? This Sunday I'm not going to blog about! What? but I am going to write a bit about saturday. On sunday {ok I'll write a little} Small oj Val was not in attendance, but hot T Ken stepped up to the plate and we whisked him up and went to The Chelan! yes the Chelan, but having raved on about it in Blogs past, I will for go going on and on about how good it was!, which it was...but I digress..ok, ok, sausage benny for me, special scramble for Msue , regular benny for HTK yeh yeh yeh yum yum yum! So saturday. Msue and I went down to the Pike Place market, you know typical chicky stuff, flowers , pictures, holding hands ... ok not so much on the last part but it was nice, just the two of us, and the two of us had to eat, right? correct amundo bloggers and bloggerinas . Well it was a toss up, Lowells or Ettas, we were buying flowers so we were closer to Lowells.....Lowells it was. We've eaten there before and its always been good, spendy, but good, Msue always gets the Dungeness Crab Benny and she raves about how good it is! Ive in the past, had the Corned Beef Hash{homemade} really good! I've also had the hangtown fry Yep Oysters there too! ,also most yummy.. , But today was different, I dont know if it was my chick side coming out or what, but we split a seafood omelette, yes we split one, {I never split} It had crab and shrimp and halibut, with a hollendaise over it all, crispy browns cooked in butter obviously, and all very good, I like Lowells, you can sit and look out at the Sound or you can sit in the bar and look down at the Market, either way it works. The Coffee? it's ok.. lucky for me while in the market area you can hit any number of Starbucks, all within a limpwristed softball pitch away. No Mini Donuts for me this time, but there's always a next time for Pike Place!

Oysters again! uh huh!

Well I told you we'd go back to the Bay Cafe in Ballard, and today we did just that!,I mean they have oysters, what more do I have to say. Not only is the food at the Bay terrific, the service at this not so little cafe is beyond compare, Coffee ? always full, Ice T? ditto!if they're not fillin something or bringin something, they're tryin to.Even if the food sucked,I might go there anyways just to be served by the pros at the Bay!Sooo food wise, it was a four way Benedict love fest for the starving four, Small OJ snuggled up with Val,and Hot T got personal with Ken, Yep Ice T for Msue and Juppa Coe for me, as is my use. Msue and Val both had Seafood benny, cept for Msue had hers with eggs scrambled well done. All the Bennys come with crispy browns and fresh fruit ,delishariffic! Ken had Sausage Benny, also quite tasty!.. Me ? Weell I gotta say, OYSTER BENEDICT! Oh my goodness, oh my goodness. Four of the crispy little shellfish, resting on a bed o spinach on top of an english muffin, poached eggs, hollendaise.. oh my, I need to rest a bit ... Ok I'm better now... It was just all so oystery! plus browns and fruit,Holy Mackerel! it was good. Soo Service? excellant, Food ? beyond that, Coffee ? dont care, the food is that good! Third trip to the Bay Cafe ? Hell yeh! they have an Oyster Omlette!

Browns Point Diner

Not to sound redundent, but yeperdoodle, it's sunday again, and what that means , for me anyway is breakfast. That familiar gastro pang that wont go away or be satisfied until properly addressed! Sooo today the victim of our ravenous assault is the Browns Point Diner. Tucked in to a little strip mall sort of thing ,along with a cleaners, a pizza joint and a Ace hardware sits a little cafe on the corner that the "feeding frenzied four" have been to a number of times, we just haven't really been there since we've been taking notes. Today, semi solo once again,Msue's out of town again, yes again...and I'm still hungry ! Sooo Ken and Val picked me up and away we went. You wouldn't know this place was there unless you lived in Browns Point, not exactly on the way to anywhere in particular,It doesn't seem to be very busy on sunday morning, which for us works out good, and I gotta feelin the Brointanites{people that live there} like it that way. This place is right on marine view drive or 509 so it's easy to find , it just takes a bit to get there,But lemme tell you, its well worth the drive! They have a complete menu, from b-fast to dinner,we have only sampled their breakfast fare so far, but by the way its gone, lunch or dinner there doesn't seem out of the question.Of course hot tea had Ken, and small oj had its way with Val, Yep , yep, yep, hot jo for me as always ,and pretty good brown stuff it was! Val had the Pancake breakfast, Two cakes ,two eggs, choice o meat {bacon was the victim here} excellamundo! she exclaimed !, well she really didn't say those exact words but I know what she meant,As for HTK {hot t Ken} he had the waffle breakfast, 1 cute little waffle ,two eggs and meat du jour {sausage I believe} As was with Vals ,damn good! I feel obligated when the little woman is not in attendance to have CFS, I guess I miss her ,cept I dont go for that eggs scrambled well done nonsense,I likes me eggs fried I do, over medium please. The BPD's CFS is off the hook! my dizzle, crispy and well cooked ,sausage gravy not too salty, and cripsy{yes I said cripsy} browns plus toast of choice, plus pretty good coffee. I've had other items at this place as well , their Eggs Benny is awful.. awful darn good, great hollandaise, MSue's usual ,a scramble of sorts is always to her liking, and you know that guy Joe? he's got a special there as well, but the real standout item on their menu, for me anyways is their Monte Cristo Sandwich,oh my frikkin gosh !is it good ! Ham, turkey, swiss cheese, pineapple dipped in egg batter and fried up mmm mmm wow! not exactly diet friendly, but hey if thats what you want , they have that as well , its called the Old Mans breakfast, 1 egg ,2 links, browns and toast {silly isn't it} for about 5 bucks, tho not bad for an old man. So Iv'e tried to find something I didn't like at this cafe ,but I dont think they have it!..... Msues out of town.... maybe dinner? naw it's probably great too! Browns Point Diner , along with some of the views, well worth the trip baby!

Portage Bay Cafe

Well today Blog followers there was the four of us together again,MSue is back from her business trip and last week was Easter of course. I spose I could've blogged about my Sister in laws brunch spread but you all would have been bored senseless about me carrying on about how good and perfect it was and always is when at MSues sisters house, so that stated on with our sunday trip to Ballard. We chose the Ballard locale of the Portage Bay Cafe today for no particular reason, I guess I wanted to drive to Ballard, must be my Norwegian heritage, there are two other locations for this well touted cafe, south Lake Union on Terry ave. and in the U district on Roosevelt. Ya sure you betcha!, we went to Ballard. It was a busy place and we had about a half hour wait till we were seated at a nice little window table slightly below street level, so we had a nice mid shin view of people walking by at the end of Market St. by the Locks. The Ballard cafe is also organic as opposed to the other locales so they have some selections of that persuasion as well as some gluten free items. That sort of thing doesn't sell me one way or the other, but it seems to work for most of the Ballard types cuz the joint was packed! Ok enough with prelims, what about the frikkin food! Well I'll tell you... they have quite the menu at Portage Bay and I after some thought, decided on "Corn cake Benedict". It was two corn cakes with ham and onions topped with poached eggs with a gruyere cheese sauce,as opposed to a hollandaise and pretty good roasted taters, I dont know why I change things up like I sometimes do, but it sounded kinda good, and it was , Kinda good. not overly hot, one egg was slightly under done and one was slightly over done so I guess it was a wash. The coffee however was excellant, so my meal by the virtue of the quality of the jo was a solid 7 or high 6. MSue order the Cafe Scramble well done, side o salsa , side o bacon, Ice Tea with lemon. It also came with the roasted potatoes and one slice of toast ,and with the homemade jam [raspberry I think] it looked pretty darn good, she said it was really good and took about half home. Val ordered a omlette as a scramble also pretty much what Msue ordered, cept she had of course a small oj, bout a quart of juice , big small there I'd say! she also thought it was pretty good. Ken ordered Apple Walnut Pancakes, which looked good, but he didn't really care for it. They have a toppings bar for the pancakes and the french toast, which I thought was kinda neat, lotsa fruit, whipped cream , sryups and nuts... very popular.Good ol Ken changed it up for breakfast beverage,he ordered decaff coffee! What? I know he likes to live on the edge sometimes! The French toast looked yumtastic, big ol pile of food that you could doctor up to your hearts content, Which I think if a second trip occurs might just be for me! I didn't think that there would be a difference in regular ketchup and organic... but Annies is no Heinz, weird huh? All in all, not bad , kinda spendy , the bill was about 70 bucks before tip for the four of us, We all decided we'd maybe try it again at a differant location , After all Ballard's a bit of a haul for a high 6 rated breakfast!

Not the worst... but..

So today for breakfast I'm flying semi solo, what I mean by that is , MSue is out of town but Ken and Val were still game, so hey, gotta eat, right? Anyhoo they picked me up at the crack of 8:45 and we were off. About a month ago MSue and I, with some friends attended an auction at Emerald Downs , on the way in I noticed a sign advertising "Best Breakfast in Town" open to the public. Amid the Horse stables that make up the north end of the racing facility and what looks to be security offices was another sign that read "Quarter Chute Cafe" With a sign like that hey, gotta try it out ! Well this is the start of horse racing season up here so there was a lot of action in and around this place, Horse and trainers all very busy, and in the middle of all this a pretty good sized Cafeteria. Yep a Cafeteria, no real table service, normally I wouldn't go for this sort of thing, I'm no snob, but there has not been a lot of happy endings for me after such trips. But we were there and with no other plans "what the heck" We pushed on and in to the line. Ordering is done at the counter, Val was first , she ordered Joes Special,I dont know Joe personnaly but he has food at almost every restaurant I've been in, then it was Kens turn ,Corn Beef hash and eggs for him "todays special at 4.95" Wow! what a bargain! I ordered CFS ,eggs over med. it came with browns and toast , soooo we slide our trays toward the end of the line, grab our beverage, and pay. Well I dont know if it was a good or bad sign that our food arrived almost before we sat down, but it did come quickly, { thats what she said!} almost too fast for my liking . So there we were plastic chairs and all ready to eat. In all fairness this cafeteria is set up for trainers and other horsey types, in another room there was pool tables and what looked to be sort of a bar. Best in Town is a big statement to make and while I did eat all my food and have suffered no ill effects from my experiance, maybe Emerald Downs is the town , but if they wer talkin best in town, meaning Auburn, I would most enfatically disagree! It was ok , the coffee was ok, self serve and all and I only had one cup. I will admit that while the food was not great, we did get to see a lot of the horses and trainers heading out to the track for some excercise ,that was pretty cool, some of those thouroughbreds are awfully big and to see em close up was fun. The Quarter Chute Cafe serves a purpose for those in the business of Horse racing, But as far as a destination stop for breakfast.... not so much!

True Blue!

Tried and true, The Chelan comes through! The Chelan Cafe, a little place on Spokane st. underneath the West Seattle bridge continues to put out a quality breakfast time and time again, and whats more , its relatively cheap {Big reason it's one of the B-fast fours favs} I dont really know how long the Chelans been in business, but it's been there as long as I can remember. It's always crowded , parking can be a challenge, but it's always worth it! I decided on friday doggonnit! that I was having pancakes on our sunday quest, and when I think pancakes , I think Chelan. I dont know what it is about em and I know people tend to think pancakes arn't that big a deal but if youre a pancake kinda guy like me, then you need to put the Chelan on your breakfast list. It's not just the p-cakes that brings the hungry four back to that little cafe time and time again no no no, every thing we've tried for breakfast there has been great , The CFS is very good, light and crispy with good country gravy, and speaking of gravy their sausage gravy for their biscuits is damn near as good as homemade, Eggs benny is good good good, great browns too.Soooo as I ramble on about what is no doubt one of my favs, and one of West Seattles favs to,as it was voted "Best Breakfast 2009 in West Seattle" I am not surprised. Today after a 10 minute wait, we were seated beneath the many maritime signs and mementos that is the decor of the Chelan ,ready to dig in. Yep , small oj for Val and her partner Hot Tea Ken, yawn... but they like what they like. Ken had the "Country Benedict" Two biscuits with patty sausage ,scrambled eggs all smothered and covered with your choice of Country gravy or Sausage, Ken elected for the latter, he decided after the fact that if he ordered it again he would choose the country style, but he polished it off and had that satisfied look only a Chelan breakfast brings. MSue had Eggs benny with her egg scrambled well done, she likes her eggs that way and sometimes the waitstaff gets abit confused, that she only wants one egg to split over the muffins instead of the usual two. It works out good for me though cuz I ordered the Pancake Sandwich, which is two big cakes one egg and choice of meat. I chose the sausage patty for little extra charge and I like my eggs over medium and since Msue only wanted 1 egg they gave me her other one, what a deal aye? and when you order your eggs they are always perfect at the Chelan I dont know, maybe its me, but I think the cook there sure knows his way around a fried egg! outstanding as usual! Val also had the Pancake sammy but she had hers with blueberries, egg scrambled, side o ham . Yummy Times for sure! Wait I know what your thinking... He found the perfect place, no need to go anywhere else, not true! for the cup o jo at the Chelan I'm afraid is sadly below par although I keep ordering it it never gets any better, the food is good and they have Ice tea thank goodness for that, the last place didn't. and for Msues and my breakfast the bill was just some change over 20 bucks, Ken and Vals was under that! Now keep in mind the Chelan is not one of those places, where you bring tons o leftovers home, no the portions are not ginormous but quality before quantity is my choice every time. Yeppers, The Chelan Cafe one of our favs although usually followed by a trip to Starbucks!

Pretty good Jo!

Well Sunday is here at last! "back to the blog" Today the destination for the hungry four was Glo's a little and I mean little cafe just on the edge of Capital hill on Olive. Ken and I dropped the girls off out front and we tried to find to find a place to park. Now if you've ever attempted to park on or around Capital hill you know that if you decide to park where its posted not to, you will immediatly be put to death! but we lucked out and found a spot within walking distance
Glo's like I said is tiny but they pour you a cup of coffee and let you stand outside to wait your turn, how nice! We didn' t have to wait much more than 10 minutes and we were seated, darn lucky again because once we were seated it appeared the entire population of Cap hill was waiting their turn to injest some of Glo's grub. Yep, same ol same ol , the tatooed Waitress brought me a coffee,Ken had hot tea, Val had her use, small oj. M Sue ordered Ice Tea w/lemon and the reply was "sorry " no ice tea... WHAT ? ooohhh she was not happy at all but she smiled and said water will be fine. Well for a tiny place,Glo's had quite the menu, Val ordered "Eggs Blackstone" kind of a Benedict with spinach instead of the meat, the eggs were poached well and it was served with browns plenty , a pretty big plate of food! She Liked it. Ken had "Eggs Nicholas" a scrambley sort of thing withs sausage and veggies He liked his as well l but they did forget his toast ,no big deal really, there was plenty of food .I ordered the "Huevos Rancheros" Three eggs over easy piled with beans, avocado, onions ,black olives, jalapenos and cheese all on top of corn tortillas, "most delicious" my quest for the great breakfast and the great coffee could have ended here , for both were excellant! Not so fast Bloggerinas, I have'nt mentioned M Sues food yet, My lovely Wife was a bit perplexed as too what she wanted , The Biscuits and gravy or a Scramble or one of the Benedicts that Glo's is apparently famous for, which was some info she said she wish she had before she ordered. She decided on the Biscuits , cuz I kinda talked her into it. You see Glo's Gravy is not Sausage it's a veggie based mushroom gravy, that while it looked good, she did not care for it! I'm sure there are some vegy folks out there that probably would like it ...but as far far as M Sue was concerned ,"not so much" Well I'll tell you there are a few things I have learned over the years about dining out with my bride of lo these many years and one of them is you should have Ice tea with lemon and plenty of it and you dont take the sausage out of the gravy!! I mean really, Veggie gravy, please! But all in all good food ,and whats more really good coffee! The coffee is from a company called Pegasus, they are on Bainbridge Isl. We all decided we would go again to Glo's, MSue would of course order differantly.

Fishermans Wharf ?

Last weekend I referred to our destination as Fishermans Wharf... { stupid ,stupid} Fishermans Terminal is the right term I believe, I must have San Francisco on my mind, sorry "my bad" But while I have your attention I feel I must say something about Fremont Coffee Roasters, the only thing Starbucks has over these guys is numbers. Great Coffee I must say.. and in a real cup! If somehow I could've brought my breakfast in there with me my quest perhaps would be fulfilled . A must try if in Fremont!

Troutasaurus

Well,no Sunday Breakfast actually this sunday,we were out of town,Although plenty of food was consumed and drinks flowed freely.... and we did eat breakfast, just at a friends house.Soo no review this week,.. well except that I did go fishing! and I did catch the biggest trout in my life, oh did I mention it was huge? cuz it was really big. It was a Triploid Rainbow, out of Rufous Woods Lake just out side of Bridgeport wa. This fish was fat as a football weighing in at least 10 lbs, yes Troutasaurus lives!... well not anymore cuz We Smoked that fat sucker! Big Fish, let me tell you. It looked like a Sockeye all filleted out . Yes there will be pictures, as soon as get them from my friend in Wenatchee, He calls himself ucatchem charters and for good reasons. A beautiful day, dead calm morning and the biggest trout I ever caught. All around a pretty good day. I missed one bite, so I was bound and determined to not miss the next one if I got the chance. The great beast hit hard, then pulled steadily ,fighting for it's freedom but it was all for not. when we saw it turn over in the water it looked like a garbage can lid with fins, not much fight in it though which was probably a good thing cuz once in the boat the line broke. Yeh yeh yeh Big Damn Fish alright I will post Pictures! So next weekend back to the restautant scene but I just had say something about this weekend , Thanks Jim and Lisa, Good times

Fishermans Wharf

February 28th 2010, A quick introduction I think would be appropriate. We the members of Sunday Breakfast are as follows; Jim {thats me!} My Wife;Mary Sue,we shall refer to her as M Sue,and our partners in crime or culinary conspirators, if you will,Ken and Val,we shall refer to them as Ken and Val. at first I thought it would be cute to refer to us as our usual beveridge , Ken would be Hot Tea, and his lovely wife Val would be forever known as small oj. BUUUt M Sue did not want to be known as Ice tea with lemon, soooo. M Sue ,Ken and Val we are ,and will remain. I admit that it's a bit unfair to expect the Diners we visit after enjoying a cup of jo of my own creation or my usual grande drip from "Bucks"to compete so I will try to go coffeeless until breakfast is served,I said I'll try. Off to Fishermans Wharf {we live in Federal Way}we go Sun am right about the crack of 930,it is sunday after all ,a day of rest ,I needs me
beautysleep, Nuff said . Our quest is the Bay Cafe and Ken with me {The Human Compass} ridin shotgun, had no problem guiding the Crv to the perfect parking spot in front of Diner we seeked. The ladies hopped out to snag a table or elbow a few slow pokes out of the way and we were seated immediately. I got to tell you I was abit taken aback when I read the "Daily Specials" on our way to our table, there were others on there ,I'm sure but all I saw was "grilled oysters"and eggs.So much for checking out what appeared to be an impressive b-fast menu, I was sunk! Oysters for Breakfast? Heck yeh I ordered em, and they were awsome! 6 of the plump beauties served with eggs over medium and what are reputed to be the best browns in town.Ok thats quite a claim, best in town!, I dont know bout that but pretty darn good browns they were. Enough about my food, oh yeh the coffee was ok,although bottmless it was typical diner type jo. M Sue had Chicken Fried Steak,Hashbrowns extra crispy,Eggs scrambled well done ,side of salsa. She said all was good, I tasted her steak and I concurred, although I believe my Bride prefers country gravy on her CFS , this came with sausage ,it was still pretty good. Ken had a Corned beef Omelette, w/browns and Rye toast, he couldn't eat it all .Val had some sort of Seafood mixed eggy thing with hollandaise, she could not finish hers either but said it was yummy! The help was very good ,if not a little wise acrey, they were impressed we came all the way from Federal Way,Soooo Best in town I dont know , but I do know it was darn good and we will go back ! I mean Oysters for cryin out loud! {and besides they have Oysters Benedict HELLO!!} gotta try that.

Summary

I've been thinking of doing this for some time, the Blog that is, and what I think this should be is just a summary of what my wife and I and two of our close friends {Although at times there are more than just the two} have discovered about eating breakfast out, in and around the Seattle area. We make no claim to be professional critics, none of us are in the foodservice business. We do however possess a love for food, a passion for friendship and the desire to experiance both simultaneously. We often eat dinner and sometimes lunch out as well but breakfast is the fav! That being said, Of all the breakfast places we have visited{and there have been quite a few},and of all the fine coffee establishments that are in the greater seattle area, very few offer both. There are some ,I'm sure, and we or I specifically {as I am the only coffee drinker in the group } are bound an determined to find " the spot".
